MG Ferguson's paintings range from people to landscapes capturing the essence of subjects she loves.
After a long break from painting and inspired by a series of fascinating doors and gates on an early morning walk in St. Augustine, FL, Martha found her way back to her love of art, thus the inspiration for her first series, “Welcome Back.”
During her college years, Martha was greatly influenced by Emit Fritz, a local artist with whom she often encountered painting the scenes of St. Augustine, FL. It was there she fell in love with painting. Martha explored various art mediums, watercolor being her favorite. Her use of the wet on wet technique reflects spontaneity in her work and although she paints the same subject matter often, each piece is unique.
Currently Martha has found success in oils. Her paintings are mostly on linen and have a rich, bold look which is quite different from the delicate look of her watercolors.
Martha’s paintings are studies from her local environment and she finds ongoing inspiration from the charming towns of St Augustine, FL and Ocean Grove, NJ. She strives to capture a feeling in her paintings rather than an exact likeness. Her paintings are in private collections throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
