“I use creative expression as an outlet for my emotions and a way to explore both myself and the world around
me. Art, especially painting and drawing, is the only thing that can calm my random thoughts, simple worries,
and creative ideas; it has helped me cope with stress and find peace and serenity when I feel overwhelmed. I
draw most of my inspiration from nature, the human body, and bright colors. I am fascinated by the beauty and
mystery of nature and I always stop to take pictures of sunsets, foliage, and other pretty scenes. My mind
instantly frames these things and sees their potential for a painting, drawing, or beautiful photograph. I am
drawn to vivid colors and they have a way of instantly brightening my mood. Portraits and the human form are
my favorite subjects to draw. I appreciate the shape of the human form and the uniqueness of every person,
while portraits have the potential to express much more than the physical composition of a person, but their
identity as well. I have discovered through the art program at RBR that art is everywhere I look, and anything and
everything can be a canvas for creative expression. Art has given me joy, pride, and identity, and I hope to
continue to do art throughout my life.”
Olivia Rogers is a twelfth grade student at Red Bank Regional High School. She is grateful for the motivation,
inspiration, and encouragement of her mother and father through her educational and artistic career. She would
also like to credit her discovery of her love for art to her grandmother “Mimi” and her aunt Maureen who are
each talented artists. She will be attending college in the fall for marketing, but hopes to tie in her creative side
with her career. She hopes to work in the fashion or media marketing industries.
