SEEING COLOR: MUNSELL FOR REALISTIC WATERCOLOR
3-Hour Hands-On Workshop
Transform the Way You See—and Paint

Do your watercolor paintings look flat, muddy, or less realistic than you intended? The problem may be the way you are seeing color.

In this workshop, you will learn how to look at the world like an artist, to recognize the subtle relationships that make objects appear solid, dimensional, and believable. Using the simple Munsell system of Hue, Value, and Chroma, you will start observing and painting with intention.
Instead of asking, “What color is this?” you’ll learn
to ask:
What color family is it? (Hue)
How light or dark is it? (Value)
How strong or neutral is it? (Chroma)

WHY THIS WORKSHOP IS WORTH ATTENDING
Many artists try to improve realism by adding more detail, buying more colors, or painting more carefully. But realism begins with accurate observation. You will learn how to identify whether a color problem is really a hue, value, or chroma problem so you can correct it with confidence.
You will leave with more than a finished painting. You will leave with a new way to see.

WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR
– Beginner watercolor painters who feel, “My colors look wrong”
– Intermediate artists whose paintings look muddy, flat, or overly bright
– Anyone who wants to understand color more clearly
– Artists who want greater realism without adding unnecessary complexity
– Painters who are tired of guessing and want a repeatable process
– Anyone ready to become more confident in both observation and color mixing

TOPICS:
1. SEEING VALUE FIRST
2. UNDERSTANDING HUE
3. CONTROLLING CHROMA
4. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
5. GUIDED PAINTING DEMONSTRATION
6. YOUR OWN PAINTING

THE TRANSFORMATION
You will leave seeing the relationships within colors:
Where the hue shifts, where the value changes, where the chroma strengthens or softens and how those changes create form, depth, and realism
Instead of reacting to problems after they appear, you will learn to anticipate them before you paint.

FINAL RESULT
You will leave with:
A practical system for seeing and describing color
A repeatable method for analyzing any
Greater confidence in mixing and adjusting color
A clearer understanding of why paintings become muddy, flat, or artificial
A new ability to create realistic form through value, hue, and chroma relationships
Most importantly you will have a process you can return to whenever you paint.
